Aloha from Adrienne Carlin Oliver interior design in Hawaii, welcome to our new website about design, interiors, favorite sources and inspirations.
Living in paradise nature is often the inspiration… it delivers a full palette of color, design detail and even an entire theme. The power of the source is irresistible since the ideas are endless and the inspirations are ever changing. But it is not all blue skies and palm trees. Sometimes, even quite often in the tropics, the colors of nature are shades of grey, intense rich blacks, misty whites, sandy tones, and dramatic stormy colors.
For example, this palette was the inspiration for a complete remodel of a Condominium Project including changing two small cramped bathrooms into a luxurious Master Bathroom. The ocean washed stones and soft grays inspired the finish selections of the dramatic new Bathroom Design. The glass stone tiles are “Cobblestone Series” and pay homage to the ocean washed lava stones at the water’s edge. The client was thrilled with this detail and it became the favorite part of the Bathroom design.
The grays and off whites continue through the clean crisp design of the new master bathroom. The walls are finished in the classic style of grey veined “Calcutta” Marble in an oversized tile of 13 x 13 inch which visually enlarges the space. The floor throughout is in a suede like finish of Porcelain tile Kiyoto Grigio 16 x 16 inch and soft pearl grey walls in Benjamin Moore 1590 Paper White in an aqua pearl finish.
Slick architectural fixtures complete the design. The tub a real find from Duravit Starck tubs of the architectural series is complimented by the Moen 90 degree faucet fixtures. As you enter the new luxurious space a rich dark walnut cabinet with grey veined granite and a large framed mirror add a new richness and contrast to the misty grays and crisp white fixtures. The glass stone tiles continue to wrap around the lav cabinet carrying the theme throughout the space. Since this was two small spaces enlarged to one the shower and toilet area are separate. The glass tile detail echoes again at the custom enlarged shower area with seamless glass enclosure. The lighting throughout the space with fixtures in brushed nickel by Kichler and Dimitri complete the look. The storage space is maximized with a full size louvered closet and custom open shelves in the same dark walnut as the lav.
